Exceed The Need

An upscale, "green" focused hotel in Jackson Hole, WY was frustrated with traditional choices available when outfitting their two large conference rooms with podiums and mobile dry bars. Everything they had found seemed geared toward the ubiquitous business person's hotel, constructed in the same old way. In addition to the green design wish, the hotel had a number of very specific requirements in terms of dry bar features and sizing (such as elevator access), as well as providing the podium with some unique elements (hidden laptop side shelf & rear keyboard tray, low energy dim-able LED surface lighting).

Using 19 mm thick Caramelized Edge Grain Bamboo as the primary material, and low-formaldehyde veneer-core plywood for supporting components, along with granite and stainless steel, MWE was able to respond with two designs that exceeded the need for green and appropriate aesthetic. The bamboo is finished with water-based, low-VOC, clear lacquer while the supporting components use a water-based, low-VOC pigmented lacquer beneath the clear coat.

Coffee Table and Pedestals

Crafted from solid Purpleheart with reclaimed Ebony inlays, these pieces are an attention-getting addition to any living room. Finished with Danish oil and hand-rubbed furniture wax, they feel as interesting as they look.

The two pedestals have been constructed using solid planks of Purpleheart, a beautiful and abundant hardwood found in Central and South America. Joinery lines are practically non-existent as the sides are precision mitered with fine reclaimed ebony inlays at each corner and at the base of the pedestal.

The coffee table is also made with Purpleheart, by stacking and pinning a series of slabs in a helical pattern. The top glass is 1/2" (12.7mm) thick and 36" (914mm) in diameter. The base Glass is 3/4" (19mm) thick and 18" (457mm) in diameter.

Old Growth Modern Mission

This pair of hand made pieces were designed and built by MWE to meet the needs of client recently moving into a brand new home. The sofa table and side table were made from old growth black walnut MWE has had in inventory for over 10 years...(just waiting for the right design to come along!). Care was taken to utilize this most amazing example of wild walnut in the most beautiful and efficient way possible, emphasizing the large swirls, knots and figuring. The aprons and inset drawer fronts are all grain matched, and utilized solid alder drawer boxes and hidden soft-close ball bearing drawer slides. The cherry inlay in both tops adds to the sophistication of these two matched pieces.
